ABOUT US

Why polish your watch?

Over time, watches accumulate scratches, signs of wear, and a dull appearance that diminish their visual appeal.
A professional polishing service restores your watch’s original look, enhances its finish, and helps preserve its aesthetic and resale value.

DW

When Should You Consider Polishing?

Polishing is not a procedure to be done automatically. It is recommended in the following cases:

  • Good time to polish your watch:

✔️ Visible scratches or aesthetic dings on the case or bracelet

✔️ Loss of shine, dull or worn look

✔️ Before resale, to increase presentation and value

✔️ During a full service to restore a like-new appearance

✔️ After several years of daily wear

  • What we do at DW&CO

Our certified watchmakers use precision tools and techniques tailored to each finish (brushed, polished, or satin) to:

✅ Remove micro-scratches and surface blemishes

✅ Restore the original shine or satin finish of the metal

✅ Respect the original shape and case angles

✅ Work carefully, avoiding excess material removal

✅ Polish both case and bracelet in steel, titanium, or precious metals

All in a safe, well-controlled professional workshop environment.

Why Avoid Amateur Polishing?

A poorly done polishing job can:

✖️ Remove too much material and distort the original edges
✖️ Round off sharp corners
✖️ Decrease the watch’s market value
✖️ Affect water resistance if reassembled improperly

Watches made of gold or platinum require even greater care. These metals are softer and more sensitive than steel, and improper polishing can cause:

✖️ Rapid material loss (gold is much softer than steel)
✖️ Deformation of original shapes
✖️ Alteration of specific finishes (brushed gold, polished gold, fine bead-blasting, etc.)
✖️ A loss of value for collectors

The Polishing Process – Key Steps

P

  • Preparation and Disassembly

The watch is carefully disassembled: case, bracelet, crown, and sometimes even the bezel.

Each metal part is isolated to avoid damaging sensitive components (crystal, dial, movement, etc.).

  • Condition Assessment

Inspection of scratches, dents, and visible wear

Analysis of the original finish type: polished, satin, brushed, bead-blasted

  • Pre-Cleaning

Degreasing and ultrasonic cleaning of all parts to remove dust, sweat, and oxidation

  • Polishing or Satin Brushing

  • Use of specialized polishing wheels (cloth, felt, brushes) and specific compounds depending on the material (steel, gold, titanium).
  • Restoration of finishes: mirror polish, vertical/horizontal brushing, or graining according to the original design.
  • Finishing and Inspection

  • Visual inspection under angled light to detect remaining micro-scratches
  • Manual touch-ups if needed to preserve the original angles
  • Final Cleaning

  • Final ultrasonic cleaning and drying
  • Complete reassembly with possible replacement of gaskets
  • Quality Control

  • Final aesthetic inspection
  • Water resistance test if required (after reassembly)

P

Essentiel!

Watch polishing should always be performed by a professional.
A poorly done polish can permanently damage the case, round off edges, alter the original finish, or even reduce the watch’s market value.
At DW&CO, every movement is precise and controlled to preserve your watch’s integrity and aesthetics.
